The Murcia Bar Association (ICAMUR) has honored attorney María del Mar Carrillo Fernández, a partner at Carrillo, with the “Women Who Inspire” award, an award that recognizes the careers of professionals who, through their legal practice, stand out for their leadership, commitment, and ability to pave the way for new generations.

The award was presented during the ceremony held to mark International Women’s Day, organized by the Murcia Bar Association, at which attorney Helena Rivera Tortosa was also honored.

The initiative aims to highlight the contributions of women who, from various fields of law and society, have built exemplary careers and contributed to the advancement of women’s leadership.

A career spanning more than three decades

María del Mar Carrillo has more than 30 years of professional experience and specializes in labor law, sports law, and legal management in the business sector.

She is currently the partner in charge of the labor law practice at Carrillo Asesores Tributarios Abogados, a firm founded by her father that she now runs alongside her siblings.

A member of ICAMUR for more than three decades, her professional career has been marked by advising companies and organizations on labor matters, as well as by her involvement in projects related to sports and institutional management.

A Role Model for Women in Leadership: First Female President of Real Murcia CF

In addition to her legal career, María del Mar Carrillo has played a prominent role in sports management. In 2021, she became the first woman to serve on the board of directors of Real Murcia, one of Spanish soccer’s historic clubs.

Later, in October 2023, she was named the first female president in the history of Real Murcia—a milestone that marked a turning point in the club’s more than 100-year history and symbolizes the growing presence of women in leadership positions in sports.

In that role, she has spearheaded initiatives aimed at raising the profile of women’s sports and promoting opportunities for new generations of athletes.

Recognition of Commitment and an Inspiring Career

During the award ceremony, María del Mar Carrillo highlighted the value of hard work and perseverance in building a professional career and emphasized the importance of the support provided by those who accompany her on that journey.

“Sometimes there’s no immediate reward. But when it comes, you feel that all the effort has been worth it,” he said during his remarks, also noting that “achievements are never made alone.”

This recognition from the Murcia Bar Association highlights a professional career that combines legal rigor, institutional leadership, and a commitment to equal opportunity, establishing María del Mar Carrillo as a leading figure in both the legal field and sports management.
